Problem triage is a selection process that distinguishes the problems that deserve structured analysis from those that can be handled with a direct response, using 4 criteria: recurrence (more than 2 times in 3 months), measurable economic or quality impact, risk of spreading to other processes or customers, and a cost of not intervening higher than the cost of the analysis. If three or more criteria are present, the problem enters the structured process.
