A generative meeting is a type of meeting designed to generate ideas, explore problems or run structured brainstorming. It requires divergence before convergence: in the generative phase judgment is suspended (no criticism in the generative phase) and a volume of options is produced; in the evaluation phase the best ones are selected. Running it requires a facilitator who manages turns, so that dominant voices do not converge prematurely. The expected output is a list of options or hypotheses to evaluate later, not yet an operational decision. Distinctive: divergence before convergence Distinctive: no criticism in the generative phase Essential: list of options or hypotheses to evaluate later Essential: a facilitator who manages turns Constant: structured brainstorming
